Training

Pawsense is proud to make flexible, fun, and effective training a reality. We offer reward-based training programs that will satisfy all your pup’s needs! We realize you may have many questions regarding our dog training services, which is why we have provided answers to our most frequently asked questions for your convenience.

What type of training methods do you use?

Pawsense's AKC, Fear Free Certified Behaviourists only use reward-based training methods. We believe dogs deserve to be rewarded when they do well rather than making them work to avoid negative outcomes. To us, rewards can mean praise, food, treats, or even a toy your dog loves. We use reward training in obedience classes to inform our four-legged students when they’re doing a behaviour correctly. Reward training allows dogs to learn quickly, and when they do, we slowly remove the treats. This is a fun, rewarding, and effective training method for both our dogs and their humans.

What type of training services are offered?

  • Day Training

  • Private Behavioural Training

  • AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Classes

  • CGC Testing

What is Day Training?

Day school lessons are designed to supplement your training plan. Lessons take place at our facility, Monday through Friday, during your work day.

Our certified dog trainers remove your dog from the play floor for a 60-minute, one-on-one lesson. After the lesson, your dog will be returned to play for the rest of the day with his or her friends. You will receive a report card outlining what was achieved and instructions on what behaviors to work on at home. If you would like to attend a lesson with your dog, please see private lessons.

What is Private Behavioural Training?

If your dog needs help with a specific physical or behavioural issue, behaviour training with Pawsense may be a great option for you. Dependent on the behaviour problem, sessions will either be held in your home or a neutral territory away from other dogs. In this course we cater to your dog’s specific needs. This type of training will require the trainier to come to your home for an initial consultation. Don't forget to ask about our virtual training (restrictions may apply).

What is the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Class?

In this 6-session course, you will learn how to build engagement with your puppy, we discuss the fundamentals of training and how to apply the training to your everyday life. We also explain and practice how to introduce your puppy to new things and how to start your puppy off right when introducing the leash. This course also has question-and-answer sessions about potty training, crate training, puppy biting, proper handling, and more! Ask about our AKC Canine Good Citizen class.

What is CGC Testing?

Our trainers are certified AKC Evaluators which means that on top of quality training you can also get your dog certified as a Canine Good Citizen. We offer the chance to take these tests after each of our group classes and as stand-alone tests.

How do I know what type of training my dog needs?

We recommend you consult with Pawsense's Certified Behaviourist to determine the type of training your dog needs. Once we understand your goals, we can help you choose the right training service that will help you achieve them. Consultation fees apply.

Where does training take place?

Training sessions take place at Pawsense, your home, or virtually.

What are the requirements to attend training?
